Rev. Norman Segovia, Pastor
Father Norman Segovia was born on January 13 in La Carlota City, in
the province of Negros Occidental in central Philippines.
Ordained for the Diocese of Bacolod, Negros Occidental, which he
served for 17 years, Father Norman first came to the Diocese of San
Jose 1985 as a student at Santa Clara University where he graduated
with a Master's Degree in Catechetic in June 1989. He was a priest
in residence at Saint John the Baptist Parish, Milpitas, from
October 1985 until June 1988 when he was officially appointed as its
parochial vicar. He served in this capacity until he was assigned to
Saint Joseph Church in Mountain View in July 1991. Father Norman
worked in this parish for 4 years.
He was sent to the Edenvale Mission in July 1995. He considers this
assignment as one of his most challenging. To start a parish
practically from nothing and to serve a community which was about
80% Hispanic were really daunting challenges, considering the fact
that Father Norman did not speak Spanish at that time. However, with
the Lord's blessings and the community's support a church was built
on the site of a former grocery store in the middle of a shopping
center. It is now Christ the King Parish on Monterey Road in San
Jose, where Father Norman served for 7 years.
In July 2002, much to his surprise, Father Norman was reassigned
back to Saint John the Baptist, Milpitas. By July 2007 he will have
completed his 5 years as pastor of this parish.
Father Norman is also the Vicar for Filipino Ministry, a position he
has held for more than 5 years.
Knowing his love for singing and for his ubiquitous karaoke machine,
Bishop Patrick J. McGrath dubbed Father Norman with the title
"Karaoke King"during his installation as pastor of Saint John's in September 2002.
