Social Justice
Social Justice Ministry was established in the parish on November 6,2002
and its members were commissioned into the ministry on February 23,2003.
This is a group whose members were committed to help the parish
community live out Catholic Social Justice teaching in areas such as
dignity of human life, housing, immigration, and labor. Health Ministry
or Parish Nursing is a branch of the Social Justice Ministry that was
launched in Fall 2003. Currently, the group has about 25 active members
Mission
To respond to the spiritual and material needs of others by
promoting awareness and encouraging involvement of the parish community.
Functions
Develop a knowledge and understanding of Catholic Social Justice
Teaching through worship, direct action and advocacy.
Provide opportunities for every parishioner to participate in
living the social justice teaching of the Church.
Promote participation in leadership and decision making for all
cultural groups Model, advocate and lead efforts in developing solutions
to the critical economic issues of the community
Parish Nursing
To minister to the needs of the individual as a whole (body,
mind, and spirit).
Promote advocacy, training of volunteers, education, and
personal health counseling.
Programs/Activities:
- Christmas Gift-Giving Tree
Distributes gift bags of food items, clothing, and toys to the
poor families in the community and neighboring cities and the
different agencies like Sacred Heart Community Services, Emergency
Housing Consortium, St. Vincent de Paul and Milpitas Food Pantry.
- Operation Rice Bowl
Coordinates this program in the Parish. 25% of the funds raised
go to our Diocese to fund local poverty and hunger alleviation
projects and 75% supports the Catholic Relief Services' development
projects around the world.
- Other Programs
Due to some valid reasons, the Food Voucher Program was stopped.
In lieu of this, our ministry is finding other means to reach out
and help.
