Liturgy
In Christian tradition, liturgy is understood as the participation of the
People of God in “the work of God.” Through the liturgy, Christ continues
the work of our redemption in, with, and through his Church.
At its best, liturgy engages the faithful in the life of the community and
involves the “conscious, active, and fruitful participation” of everyone.
At St. John's we are committed to creating an environment in which liturgy
draws together a diverse community of the faithful. Nourished by Word and
Sacrament, we are empowered to live the Eucharist in the world through our
interactions with others and through our work for justice.
Responsibilities
The function of this office is to assist the pastor in the
planning of the liturgical year. This includes planning prayer services,
seasonal decorations in church, penance services, and special services or
Masses. The Liturgy office has a committee which consists of coordinators
from the different ministries directly involved in the planning of the
liturgical events. The ministries are: Eucharistic Ministers, Eucharistic
Ministers for the Sick, Lectors, Altar Servers, Music, Ushers/Greeters,
Adult Education, Youth, and Presiders.
To worship
As a Eucharistic centered community of worshipers recognizing
Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, the Office of Liturgy strives with the
help of God to lead others in following Him in our daily lives.
To Evangelize
Through our patron, St. John the Baptist, we seek to minister to
the spiritual, educational, and physical needs of our parish family and
community.
To Support
Strengthened by the Holy Spirit, the Office of Liturgy believes
that service to others is an outgrowth of the Gospel message. The office
encourages service to the church and community as it strives towards goals
which will help us all become more of a loving Christian community.
