Daily Novena, 1st Fridays -- Germy Galvan
St. John the Baptist church was founded in 1877 as one of the first mission
churches in the area. However, it was not until the Vatican II approval and
encouragement for lay ministry participation that the Lector Ministry became an
integral part of the church. On the later part of the 1970s, we started to have
active participation of trained lectors in the liturgy of our masses. Today, the
Lector Ministry has been recognized by the Diocese to be an important ministry
that motivates full participation in the celebration of the Mass and inspires
the spread of the messages of our Lord Jesus Christ
Vision/Mission:
This lector ministry has the sole
purpose of dedicating its services to the parish through the proclamation of the
Word, in the liturgy of the Mass. This ministry's goal is to help shape the
faith of the parishioners.
Expectations/Commitment:
Lectors that join the ministry are required to attend the annual workshop,
training, and commissioning before they can serve. The commissioned lectors are
expected to discharge their duties responsibly and with dedication; they must
put to practice their learned procedures and expend the effort for the proper
preparation and delivery.
Officers: St. John's Liturgy committee oversees and introduces guidelines and
rules to follow the normative liturgy set by the Diocese of San Jose.
The Team that implements the procedures, reinforces them, and supports the
lectors in their execution is comprised of a lector coordinator - David Wang
with the support and assistance of the 10 leaders, one for each Mass):
