Couple for Christ
Couples for Christ (CFC) started at St. John the Baptist in 1993
with first Christian Life Program (CLP) ever conducted in a parish
in California. Every year since, CLPs have been offered at St.
John's. The CLP is an integrated course in the basics of
Christianity leading to a renewed understanding of God's call to us
as Christians.
CFC has programs
that reach out to different members of the family, via the Family
Ministries: Kids for Christ (KFC, for children of CFC members ages
4-11; Youth for Christ (YFC), for children of CFC and non-CFC
members ages 12-21; Singles for Christ (SFC), for single men and
women ages 22-40; Servants of the Lord (SOLD), for widowers, mature
single men, divorced men and single fathers; and Handmaids of the
Lord (HOLD), for widows, mature single women, divorced women and
single mothers.
Vision/Mission
We, as Couples for Christ, are called to be families in the Holy
Spirit renewing the face of the earth. As Christian families we are
called to grow in holiness and discipleship, so that God can use us an
evangelizers and missionaries in order that He might renew the world. In
this task, we are called to take up the very mission of Jesus in
bringing glad tidings to the poor.
There are three basic parts of the vision and mission of CFC:
(1)family life renewal, (2)global evangelization and mission, and (3)
total human liberation. These are in line with the very mission of Jesus
(Matthew 4:23), where He taught, proclaimed the gospel, and cured every
disease and illness. The first, teaching, is all about formation unto
discipleship. This is done by our Family Ministries. The second,
proclaiming the gospel, is all about evangelization. This is the
missionary thrust of CFC itself. The third, curing every disease and
illness, is all about the work for total human liberation. CFC Milpitas
supports this mission through Gawas Kalinga (GK), literally "to give
care." GK is an alternative solution to the blatant problem of poverty
worldwide. It is CFC's response to the challenge of social renewal as a
natural response to its Christian responsibility.
Expectations/Commitments
Upon completion of a 13-talk Christian Life Program (CLP) seminar,
participants are invited to join Couples for Christ. In general, each
member is expected to live out his/her covenant to live as a follower of
Christ, to help build a strong family for Christ, to be available to the
Lord for service, to relate in love and loyalty to other families, and
to study and seek to grow as a Christian person.
Officers
The CFC members who belong to St. John's are grouped
into small cell groups for mutual support and encouragement in the
Christian life under the guidance of a household leader. There are no
ministry/organization officers, per se. Points of contact for each of
the ministries are shown below.
Meeting Time/Duration Set by each cell group.
